Life Steps Camp

Medina Creative Accessibility (MCA) offers Life Steps Camps designed to meet the needs of cognitively and functionally disabled children and adults and to provide respite for caregivers.

Camps consist of structured, comprehensive, and continually supervised educational and social activities that emphasize client choice and are intended to meet the individual needs of the persons served.

The PURPOSE of our Camps are...

to help children and adults with cognitive and functional disabilities stabilize, increase and/or sustain their highest level of functioning so that they can maintain the skills needed to live independently as possible at home and in the community.


The OUTCOME of our Camps are...

helping individuals reach their goal of independent living with support in a community setting.
 

 



 

MCA offers a Spring and Summer Day Camp, Alternative Latchkey After School Programs, and Holiday Camps at Christmas and Easter breaks.

Educational and social activities include:

• Homework assistance
• Social skills
• Group activities such as arts, crafts and games
• Meal planning and preparation
• Maintaining home, cleaning and lawn care
• Safety
• Money skills
• Community field trips
• Transportation
 


Program Fees

  • The cost of camp is $300.00 for the week. (A day rate is also available at $60.00 per day) Family rates are offered for $250.00 for the week, per family member.
  • Level One and IO Waiver, Supportive Living, Extended School Year and Family Support Service Programs and other funding resources are available to cover the cost of camp. Check with your Case Manager at the Medina County Board of DD to see if you qualify.
  • A limited number of camperships are also available to help defray the cost of attending our camp.

Animal Planet—June 2-June 6

Do you love to take care of animals? Enjoy a week learning about animals and how to care for them. We will be staying overnight at the zoo, visit the Cleveland Aquarium and an animal rescue. Join us for some fun with our four legged friends. Bring your camera and capture the moments for the Cutest Animal Competition.
 

Bridle Buddies—June 9-June 13 (Beginner)

Come out and make friends with our therapy horses. You will be learning how to feed, water, groom and care for our horses. You will also meet a real veterinarian and blacksmith and watch them work on our horses..
 

Healthy Lifestyles —June 16-June 20

Food, exercise and fun will be this week’s theme. We will learn yoga, meditation, martial arts and we’ll hike in area parks. We will focus on healthy eating and work on our money management skills.


Ride ‘em Cowboy (Cowgirl)—June 23-June 27 (Advanced)

Do you love horses and want to improve your riding skills? Join us, partner, as we learn how to ride horses in Western and English equitation. We will learn about horses, how to care for them and how to ride like a real cowboy or cowgirl.
 

Garden Grocer—July 7-July 11

We will be spending the week at the brand new Life Steps Life Skills Training Lodge. Help us plant our own herb garden, harvest our own fruits and vegetables at local farms and learn how to can and freeze them


Museum Mania—July 14-July 18

Have you ever visited the Cleveland Natural History Museum or the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? Have you ever been on a tour on the Goodtime III? Come and explore some of the area’s most exciting attractions as we enjoy the museum scene in Ohio.


Kitchen Koncoctions—July 21-July 25

Is cooking your area of interest? Join a Chef from our community as he teaches us new cooking skills. We will learn new recipes and we will create our own recipe files.


Super Science Sleuths—July 28-August 1

Do you like science experiments? Join us as we learn to make our own fun and educational experiments. We will visit the Akron Fossil and Science Center and ride their zip line. We will also visit the Cleveland Science Center, become astronauts and explore outer space.


Crafting Creations—August 4-August 8

Let’s be creative! Design your own jewelry, learn how to scrap-book, paint a beautiful work of art and make your own pottery. Join us and discover the artist inside you!
 

Manners and More—August 11–August 15

Join us as we learn about party planning, restaurant etiquette, how to write a thank you note and proper hygiene. We will make our own weekly schedule and learn telephone etiquette as we schedule our outings for the week and make transportation arrangements.


Every week, twice a week, at Life Steps Camp our campers will get the unique opportunity to experience therapeutic horseback riding at our Medina Creative Therapy Ranch. This PATH certified program is supervised by a certified therapeutic horseback riding instructor.
