VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT
Volunteer Opportunities

Medina Creative Housing welcomes volunteer initiatives by individuals and/or groups. We have many volunteer opportunities available and the following list is representative of these opportunities:

• Adopt a Home or Resident i.e. celebrate special occasions with the residents, send a birthday card, have a dinner with the resident periodically, take to church

• Participate in planning and/or running an activity for our residents

• Plan and/or run a special event party i.e. Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Easter, Memorial Day or Fourth of July Picnic, Thanksgiving, Christmas

• Beautify a home i.e. spring clean-up, fall clean-up, plant flowers

• Help rehab a home (we are currently rehabbing a home in Brunswick)

• Help build or fund picnic tables for the Medina Creative Living Pavilion

• Clerical assistance

• Fundraising assistance i.e. host a Lucinda Pin Party, serve on the Raising the Roof Committee, host a fundraiser

Medina Girl Scouts

Several Medina Girl Scout Troupes led by Stephanie Brodersen and Sheila Davis purchased and compiled “housewarming baskets” filled with items the residents would need for their new home and presented these at the Medina Creative Living Ribbon Cutting Ceremony.

These included: laundry basket, laundry soap, toilet paper, cleaning products and a mop. They also presented each resident with a handmade decoupage box to store their personal treasurers. We can’t thank the Girl Scouts enough for their generosity and caring for our community!

Build A Bear

This Christmas season Medina Creative Housing residents were blessed by the Medina County Community. Judge John Lohn and his Probate Court and Community Service Staff invited Medina Creative Housing residents to participate in this year’s “Build a Bear” program.

Each Medina Creative Housing resident got to build a bear with the help of a Community Service youth. Our residents received not only a new, cuddly, fully attired bear, but also were able to make new friends.

Pavilion Constructed

In December, the Medina Breakfast Kiwanis Club, led by President Tom Borror, presented Medina Creative Living with a pavilion which was originally part of the project plans but had to be cut due to cost. The Medina Breakfast Kiwanis Club financed the pavilion through their Sports Hall of Fame fundraiser for the past two years, volunteer labor and donated materials.

The pavilion was built through the efforts of many Medina Breakfast Kiwanians and community volunteer hours. Community businesses generously donated materials and labor including Albrecht Trucking, Allied Supplies, Arnold Architectural Strategies, Baker Sands, Broadview Roofing, Carter Lumber, Mack Industries and Mike Gorfido Concrete. This pavilion will provide Medina Creative Housing residents with an outdoor activity area for many years to come thanks to the generosity of our local Kiwanians.

Christmas Cut-Out Cookies

To help raise funds for the social/recreation activities for our residents, Gayle Prebis, Ann Prebis and several volunteers spent an entire Saturday baking 24 dozen Christmas cut-out cookies with the Medina Creative Living residents and Megan Hillard organized a Christmas Lucinda pin and jewelry party.

Westfield Insurance Christmas Feast for MCH

On December 21, the Westfield Insurance IT Department, led by Tom Bilcze, threw a Christmas Party for the Medina Creative Housing residents at the Medina Creative Living J.K.R. Community Room. This generous group bought a Christmas present for each Medina Creative Housing resident, provided a Christmas feast, a visit from Santa himself and tins filled with Christmas treats for each resident. Fun and excitement filled our Community Center as a result of the Westfield IT Department’s efforts and the joy that was brought could not be measured.
